Open from sunup to sundown year round, the Southern Humboldt Community Park is located just outside of the town of Garberville in the southern part of Humboldt County, California. It is approximately seventy-five miles south of the town of Eureka and ten miles north of Piercy.
Directions From the North
Take Highway 101 to Garberville. Take the first Garberville exit onto Redwood Drive. Proceed to the light. Make a right onto Sprowel Creek Road and drive down the hill. The Main Entrance to the park is on the left hand side of the road at a bend and has a sign at the main gate. If you reach the river you have gone too far.
Directions From the South
Take the first Garberville exit off Highway 101. Proceed to the stop light in the middle of town (Shell station will be on your left) and turn left on Sprowel Creek Road. The park is down the hill, less than 1 mile from Garberville. The Main Entrance is on the left hand side of the road at a bend, and there is a sign at the main gate. If you reach the river, you have gone too far.
Inside the Main Entrance to the Park you will find the historic ranch buildings, trailheads, the Park Caretakers and the Community Farm.
Tooby Memorial Park Entrance
To reach the playground and the main picnic area at Tooby Memorial Park, continue on Sprowel Creek Road beyond the Main Entrance for a few hundred yards. The entrance to Tooby Memorial Park is on the right.
To reach the Kimtu Entrance to the Park, continue on Sprowel Creek Road past the Main Entrance and the Tooby Memorial Entrance and bear left onto Kimtu Road just before you reach the bridge. The Kimtu Entrance and parking area is on the left side of the road about a third of a mile from the junction. You will find picnic tables near this park entrance in a very beautiful setting.
