SoHum Community Park collaborates with two Wailaki non-profits to celebrate our culture, collaborate on important initiatives, and promote the health of our environment and community.
Our Partners
Eel River Wailaki
Located a bit further south, Eel River Wailaki is a small, grassroots organization devoted to preserving Wailaki culture and supporting the local community. They held their 2nd Annual Big Time at the Park on May 31, 2025, bringing together friends, family, and allies for a day of celebration.
Native Health in Native Hands
We are proud to collaborate with Native Health in Native Hands, alongside the Trees Foundation and the Institute for Sustainable Forestry. Together, we aim to achieve vital community goals that honor our traditions and foster a sustainable future.
Our Goals
At SoHum Community Park, we prioritize the practice of prescribed burns to enhance the health of our forests and reduce wildfire risks. We’ve initiated some prescribed fire activities, with plans for more in the future. This ancient practice is vital for maintaining ecosystem health, supporting biodiversity, and preserving traditional land management techniques.
2. Native Plant Nursery
We envision establishing a native plant nursery on the farm. This nursery will serve as a source of native plants for restoration projects and provide educational opportunities for community members to learn about Wailaki flora and traditional uses.
3. Riparian Restoration Projects
To protect our waterways and enhance habitat for local wildlife, we are developing riparian restoration initiatives. These projects will focus on restoring damaged areas, improving water quality, and fostering thriving ecosystems.
